Community Service

An important part of Bay Ridge Prep's philosophical principles involve broadening students' horizons to understand and pursue the responsibilities of being citizens of local, national and global communities.

At the Middle School level, older students are paired with younger students and become their "Reading Buddies." The Reading Buddies Program allows Bay Ridge Prep's youngest students to learn from their older peers and role models. The older students, in turn, learn the important life lessons of giving back to a community that has given so much to them and the importance of keeping the school environment positive.

Another hallmark of community service at Bay Ridge Prep occurs each fall when the Lower, Middle and High Schools join together and operate a food and clothing drive for local charities. Other school-wide service projects include participating in run/walks for Breast Cancer, AIDS, and sending care packages for members of the the U.S. Military.

The Community Service experience at Bay Ridge Prep continues all the way through Senior year, when students spend at least one half day per school week volunteering at local charitable, public service and non-profit institutions. Bay Ridge Prep Seniors can be found lending a helping hand anywhere from food pantries and assisted living centers to local NYPD precincts and public elementary schools in need of help.
