Bay Ridge Preparatory School, an independent K-12 co-ed college preparatory school, is pleased to announce the following positions. Positions are available in our Lower School (grades K-5), Middle School (grades 6-8) and High School (grades 9-12). LOWER SCHOOL HEAD TEACHER

Minimum qualifications for Head Lower School Teachers include:

  • B.A. or B.S. from an accredited college or university required; Masters degree preferred
  • 2 years teaching experience in elementary education in public and/or independent schools
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Commitment to the social, emotional, and cognitive needs of all children

Strong Lower School teacher applicants possess demonstrated competence in:

  • Establishing multi-sensory, hands-on learning environments encouraging risk-taking, experimentation, and critical thinking where children are encouraged to be both independent and dependable
  • Planning daily Reading Workshops incorporating read alouds, guided reading, word study, and independent reading with individualized reading goals
  • Facilitating Writing Workshops based on literature immersion, keeping a writer’s notebook and publishing cycles
  • Utilizing a balanced approach to Mathematics allowing students to develop an understanding of mathematical concepts and skills using non-routine, real-world tasks which incorporate a variety of mathematical strands
  • Planning integrated, experience-based social studies/ science curricula responsive to children’s developmental interests that emphasizes the interconnectedness of the human and natural world
  • Collecting and analyzing data from a variety of student assessments to increase student achievement and enhance professional practice
  • Building strong home-school relationships through clear and relevant homework assignments, weekly newsletters
  • Effectively collaborating with colleagues and administration regarding teaching and learning

SPEECH AND LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST

The Speech and Language Department seeks a full or part time Speech and Language Pathologist to provide individual, small group, and collaborative team teaching intervention to learning disabled students in the Bridge and Achieve Programs. Requirements include a Masters Degree in Speech Language Pathology, New York State Licensure, ASHA certification, and CCC. Strong CFY candidates will also be considered.

LANGUAGE AND LITERACY SPECIALIST

The Middle School Literacy Department seeks a full time Language and Literacy Specialist to teach Language Arts to learning disabled students in the Bridge and Achieve Programs, as well as provide individual and small group intervention in language and literacy development. Candidates who possess degrees and strong experience in special education and language and literacy should apply.

  • History
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Foreign Languages (Multilingual Spanish/French/Italian)
  • Mathematics Learning Specialist (exp. working with LD students preferred)
  • Sciences Learning Specialist (exp. working with LD students preferred)

Qualified candidates must possess the following:

  • Bachelor's required; Master’s preferred
  • Ability to teach multiple subject areas within your discipline (Ability to teach across disciplines a plus)
  • 1-3 years’ previous teaching experience, preferably in an independent or private school setting
  • Commitment to the social, emotional, and cognitive needs of all students
