For the twelfth consecutive year, Mother Nature cleared the skies and brought out the sun for Bay Ridge Prep’s annual Turkey Trot fun run. After an initial forecast of clouds and showers, hundreds of Bay Ridge Prep students, faculty, parents and alumni woke up to a surprisingly sunny, warm 62ºF day and showed up for the school’s most popular tradition, held this year on Friday, November 20, at the park on Shore Road and 79th Street. The event, which brought together the school community for an afternoon of fun and fitness, also served as the kick off to the school’s annual fund campaign.
Students in grades K-4 ran a course a little less than a quarter-mile long, while students in grades 5-12 joined teachers, alumni and parents for a fun run of just over one mile. After the run, the entire school community gathered for bagels and hot chocolate at the school’s 81st Street campus.

"The Turkey Trot is one of my favorite events of the school year," said Dr. Charles Fasano, Head of the Lower and Middle Schools. "It really showcases how supportive our families are of our school and how much the community believes in our school’s mission and philosophies."
Thanks to the generosity of families and local businesses, over $65,000 was raised to kick off Bay Ridge Prep’s annual fund campaign and donations are still coming in. Among the major sponsors were Approved Oil and the Theurer Family as well as Queen Ann Gourmet Pasta and Paneantico Bakery. Both Queen Ann and Paneantico donated all the pasta and desserts served at the annual Alumni Pasta Dinner held the night prior to the Turkey Trot.
Dr. Michael Dealy, Head of the High School, noted that because of the kindness of the Turkey Trot sponsors, the school is able to further its educational mission of developing the whole student.
"Our sponsors are wonderful and generous people." Dr. Dealy said, "With their help, Bay Ridge Prep is able to invest in technology and facilities upgrades that will not only enhance our college preparatory program but also enhance the lives of the students who will use their Bay Ridge Prep experience to succeed in college, graduate school and in the careers they pursue."
